Ride WRTA Fixed Route Buses FREE Every Friday This Summer!

WRTA will offer free rides on every one of its fixed route buses each Friday in June, July and August.

The idea behind Free 4 All Friday is simple. Starting June 7 and continuing every Friday through August 30, no fare will be necessary to ride or transfer to any fixed route bus in the WRTA system. (WRTA’s Countywide and ADA All-Access services are not included in this promotion.)

“We created Free 4 All Friday with two purposes in mind,” says WRTA Executive Director Dean Harris. “First, we want to reward our loyal riders who use our service regularly. And secondly, we want to encourage those who have never used WRTA to give it a try and see how easy and convenient it is.”

First-time WRTA riders will want to check out the myStop mobile smartphone app, which shows all fixed routes in the WRTA system and the position of each bus that is traveling on them. myStop mobile has many additional features such as Trip Planning and text messaging to alert riders of when their bus is nearing their stop.

Time Point Changes for Certain Routes

Now You Can Get to the Alliance Transit Center on a WRTA Countywide Bus

Beginning Monday, June 3, WRTA will provide scheduled service to the Phyllis Beyers Regional Transit Center, located at Prospect Street at South Union in Alliance.

WRTA’s Countywide service, which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, will transport riders to the Center. From there, riders will be able to get a ride on any of the routes that are part of the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) system that serves many destinations in Alliance.

Our Countywide buses operate Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. You must first register for Countywide service by calling (330) 744-8431. Once registered, you can call that same number to schedule a ride to the Alliance Transit Center. Rides must be scheduled at least 24 hours or up to seven days in advance.

The fare for Countywide service is $3.50 each way. Seniors and persons with disabilities are $2.50 each way with proper proof of age/disability. Children under six ride free with a paying adult. Transferring to and from the SARTA system is free.

For schedules and maps for SARTA’s Alliance bus routes, go to www.sartaonline.com/schedules.

Free Rides on Fixed Routes February 14 for Ohio Loves Transit Day!

The Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA) will be part of a statewide celebration of public transportation in Ohio on Thursday, February 14.

The Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA) has once again designated this Valentine’s Day as “Ohio Loves Transit Day,” and WRTA will mark the occasion by offering free rides on all fixed routes in its system.

“Ohio Loves Transit Day gives us the opportunity to thank WRTA riders for their loyalty, and also to welcome new riders who may not have used WRTA previously,” said Executive Director Dean Harris. “With our myStop Mobile smartphone app and other technological innovations, they’ll be able to see how easy and convenient riding the bus can be.”

Over three million Ohioans rely on public transportation every weekday — and WRTA riders are a significant part of this group. Over 48 percent of riders use WRTA to get to and from work every day, while others rely on WRTA to get to medical appointments, buy groceries and visit family and friends. In addition, over 40 percent of WRTA riders are seniors or persons with disabilities, while many others don’t own a vehicle and have no other means of transportation.

WRTA is important even to those who don’t use the service personally. Over 78 percent of WRTA trips contribute to the local economy in some way. Area retailers benefit from customers who otherwise would have no way of patronizing their places of business. And WRTA makes it possible for more people to hold a steady job and therefore pay taxes. In fact, it’s estimated that every dollar invested in public transit generates four dollars to Ohio’s economy.

WRTA’s fixed route buses will operate from approximately 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on Ohio Loves Transit Day, while Nightline routes will run as late as midnight. All rides on each of these fixed routes will be free on February 14.

Route and schedule information is available at WRTAonline.com

Community Forums at Federal Station

The Western Reserve Transit Authority is holding a series of meetings to get the public’s input in creating routes.

The meetings will also be an opportunity for riders to learn about how WRTA reviews and determines routes.

Market research has already been conducted among riders and agencies that rely on bus transportation for clients.

WRTA is now conducting a review of the performance of each route.

The public is invited to help WRTA design a fixed route bus service for the Valley through the community forums.
